Future Grant Projects

The Council has approved a variety of projects to achieve its goals as listed in the State Plan for Texans with Developmental Disabilities. Projects will be established based on the availability of funding, as summarized in the table below. The Grants Manual (.DOC) includes information on TCDD requirements, program policies and procedures, and financial guidelines.

Project SEARCH — Facilitate the development of new licensed Project SEARCH sites across the state, collaborate with the national Project SEARCH office, DARS and other agencies to ensure that all available resources are used effectively and efficiently, and evaluate the factors that influence the degree of success of the program in various areas of Texas.

Outreach Efforts — Multiple projects over multiple years, not to exceed $500K per year, to collaborate so the Council may better understand/meet needs in communities identified as underserved or unserved.
  1. Outreach and Development Grants — Enable groups made up of people who are African American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian or Native American, to give input and conduct activities to increase knowledge of specific minority cultures and to improve the cultural appropriateness of services and supports.

    • Up to 10 projects for up to 1 year each
    • Up to $10k per project

Transportation Project — Address transportation issues in a single HHSC region by developing transportation alliances that include active participation by people with disabilities and training local organizations to provide effective travel training to individuals with developmental disabilities.

Funders' Roundtable — Collaborate with foundations and other grant-making entities to share information and maximize resources. No funding required at this time.

Building Community Capacity through Collaboration - Support a network of diverse organizations and individuals to implement a two-phase project in their community:

Phase 1: Develop and submit a strategic plan to build the community’s capacity to provide high quality, community-based, person-centered and/or family-centered healthcare services, behavior supports, and/or respite to support people with developmental disabilities; and

Phase 2: Implement the plan.

  • 4 projects for up to 18 months, for up to $75,000 per project, for Phase 1
  • 4 projects for up to 5 years, for up to $150,000 per year, per project for Phase 2

Promotion of Self-Advocacy at Texas Conferences — multiple projects and stipends to encourage and support organizations holding conferences in Texas to include self-advocates as presenters and/or to sponsor other presenters who are experts on supporting self-advocacy, self-determination, and full inclusion.

Support for Self-Advocates as Speakers — Recruit, advertise, and provide administrative support to promote self-advocates as speakers and/or facilitators at Texas conferences.

  • 1 project for up to 4 years
  • Up to $125,000 per year

Sponsorship of Plenary Speakers: Stipends to sponsor  plenary session speakers who can speak about advancing self-advocacy, self-determination or inclusion.

  • Stipends for amounts to $7500 per event (maximum 1 stipend per year per organizations)
  • Up to $75,000 available for all stipends per year

Sponsorship of Concurrent Session Presentations: stipends to sponsor concurrent session presentations or tracks that are related to advancing self-advocacy, self-determination or inclusion.
